Manchester United striker Anthony Martial emotional as Ronaldo sends message after Sevilla move

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has received a special message from Brazil great Ronaldo after sealing his loan transfer to Sevilla.

The 26-year-old told Ralf Rangnick he wanted to leave Old Trafford earlier this month and, having had one attempt to sign him knocked back, the Spaniards have rubber-stamped a move for the Frenchman after agreeing to pay his entire £240,000-a-week wage until the end of this season.

United will not receive a loan fee and there is no obligation for Sevilla to buy the player.

Martial has played 269 games across all competitions for United, scoring 79 goals and laying on 50 assists, following a high-profile £50million arrival from Monaco in 2015.

He has been handed the number 22 shirt at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadion and will hope to help Sevilla to a surprise La Liga title this campaign. They are four points behind table-toppers Real Madrid with 16 matches remaining each.

Martial has been inundated with well-wishes from Old Trafford and beyond ever since his temporary switch was confirmed by the clubs involved and the France international was visibly moved when Sevilla played him a video message from his idol growing up, the Brazilian Ronaldo.

How many goals will Martial score for Sevilla? Have your say in the comments section below.

Having represented Barcelona and 'El Clasico' rivals Real during his glittering playing career, the ex-Brazil frontman totted-up 116 goals in 164 appearances in La Liga.

Ronaldo's video was shown to an apparently emotional Martial on a big screen at Sevilla's stadium upon his transfer announcement.

In a message translated from Spanish, he said: "Hi, Martial. Welcome to La Liga and welcome to Sevilla. A big [club] in Spain and in Europe, with incredible supporters, localised in a great city. I wish the best for you, may you be very lucky. Hugs."
