Manchester United stars dominate Women's Super League nominations after impressive month

Manchester United stars Leah Galton and Ona Batlle have been nominated for December's Barclays WSL Player of the Month Award while manager Marc Skinner is also in contention for Manager of the Month.

United went unbeaten in December and currently sit third in the table having lost just one game all season. The Red Devils started the month in scintillating form by dealing Aston Villa a 5-0 mauling in front of a record crowd at Old Trafford before signing off for the winter break with an action-packed 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad.

Galton and Batlle started both games and were on target against Aston Villa while Galton also found the net in the Manchester derby - the 28-year-old coolly slotting home to give United the lead. The pair face stern opposition for the award, with United goalkeeper Emily Ramsey, who is on loan at Everton, also nominated having kept a clean sheet and racking up 17 saves in her two December fixtures.

Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema, City's Laura Coombs and Chelsea duo Fran Kirby and Guro Reiten make up the seven-player shortlist. Galton and Batlle's strikes against Villa also see the them nominated for the Goal of the Month Award.

United's eye-catching December displays mean boss Marc Skinner is also in the running for the Manager of the Month prize. Skinner has already picked up the accolade once this season after a flawless October saw United register three wins without conceding a single goal.

While the United boss is a strong contender for the prize, he faces competition from Arsenal’s Jonas Eidevall, Chelsea’s Emma Hayes and Reading’s Kelly Chambers.

The nominations are a testament to the Red Devils' impressive form, which the squad will look to build on when they return to WSL action against newly-promoted Liverpool on January 15.
