Manchester United star Marcus Rashford equals Mohamed Salah record with latest Premier League award

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for the third time this season after a number of impressive showings in February.

Rashford scored the opening goal for Erik ten Hag's side against Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday night, with United securing a 4-1 victory over La Liga outfit in the first leg of their last-16 tie. The away side got back into the clash before half time, but goals from Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst completed the victory for the Reds.

The England ace has registered a staggering 26 goals and nine assists in all competitions for Ten Hag's side this term. His strong performances last month helped United lift the Carabao Cup, while he also played an important role in the Reds progressing past Barcelona in their Europa League play-off tie.

Having scored five times in the top flight in February, Rashford was awarded the Premier League Player of the Month award. It was the third time the 25-year-old has won the accolade this term, which matches Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah for most awards in a single season.

Rashford, who also won the award in January, is the first player to win the award in back-to-back months since Manchester City star Illkay Gundogan two years ago.

In addition to winning the Premier League accolade, the England international won United's Player of the Month award. Speaking about that honour, he told club media: "It's obviously always good to be amongst the conversations.

"To be awarded this Player of the Month, I feel like especially in the last three months, you could give it to anyone. Any of the people that have been voted deserve to win it, it obviously makes me feel really proud that I have managed to do it three times.

"All the players that have been up for it, even some of the ones that haven't been up for it deserve it. It shows that, as a team, we are improving and, hopefully, we can continue doing that."

In a tweet, he added: "Over the moon to have won MU & PL Player Of The Month again. I couldn’t have done it without the rest of the boys and the staff. Setbacks will happen but as long as we stay focused and stay together we will always see the light at the end of the tunnel!
