Manchester United midfielder Fred said criticism of Antony’s piece of skill in the 3-0 win over FC Sheriff is unwelcome, and suggested he believes the fact the winger is Brazilian has something to do with the amount of flak he is copping.
United legend Paul Scholes branded the winger a “clown” for producing his trademark spin, dubbed 'The Anturny', before over-hitting a pass out of play. Scholes said at half-time on BT Sport: “If I was a number six playing out there I know what I would be doing.
“I don’t know what he is doing, it is just ridiculous. He is not beating a man, he is not entertaining anybody, then he kicks the ball out. But that is the way he plays but I think he needs that knocking out of him.”

Robbie Savage criticised Antony's use of the skill move, calling it “embarrassing”. Fred, though, defended his United teammate and compatriot, saying: “It’s very annoying that they want to say that. I think it starts with us being Brazilians. Brazilians have quality in their blood.
“It’s always been that way since Pele, to have quality, to dribble, to score, to dance, to smile. So I think people have to understand this aspect that we have. So it wasn’t offensive to anyone what he did.
“Of course, if it’s offensive, we’ll come to him in the dressing room and talk. But it was not offensive to anyone. It’s his game. I think he has to keep doing it.”
Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, said he was only in favour of trickery when it has a purpose, and suggested he would speak with Antony if he felt he was showboating in an arrogant way.
Ten Hag said: “When there is a trick like that it is nice as long as it's functional and not losing the ball, if you're attracting players, it's okay. But if it's a trick because of a trick then I will correct him.”
Antony himself responded to the criticism on Instagram on Friday, writing: "We're known for our art and I won't stop doing what got me to where I am!"
