Manchester United star David de Gea makes joke about Cristiano Ronaldo Instagram post

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent a short message to team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in awe of his physique after the latter shared an image of himself on his Instagram page.

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in his first season back at Old Trafford last term, is currently away on holiday enjoying a well-earned break ahead of United's pre-season preparations getting under way. Several members of the Reds' squad will report back to the club's Carrington training base next Monday, but those who have recently been on international duty will return a little later.

Ronaldo represented Portugal over the most recent period of international matches, featuring in three of their four UEFA Nations League fixtures. That means that he will not be among the first crop of players to meet up with new United manager Erik ten Hag next week.

The United ace is currently abroad enjoying a holiday with his family, but that has not stopped him from continuing to look after himself and work on his fitness levels. He uploaded an image to his Instagram page of him in the gym, posing topless, showing his six-pack and muscles.

Unsurprisingly, the post attracted a wave of responses from United supporters, hailing his physique and dedication. And it also grabbed the attention of De Gea, who replied with a four-word message.

Translated from Spanish to English, the message said: "Missing a little gym!"

It is clear that the goalkeeper sent the Portugal captain the message with a degree of sarcasm, referencing just how well Ronaldo is looking without training with his United team-mates day-in, day-out.

He continues to work incredibly hard away from the training ground, highlighted by his continued levels of success. He will be hoping to pick up where he left off next season and continue as United's goalscorer-in-chief.
