Manchester United are reluctant to get drawn into a bidding war with Liverpool over Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
Both clubs are interested in the 22-year-old forward this summer and reports on Merseyside on Wednesday morning claimed Liverpool would have to break their transfer record to sign the Uruguayan.
Nunez has been valued at €100million (£85million) by Benfica this summer and the Portuguese giants would benefit from significant transfer interest from two of the Premier League's biggest clubs.

Liverpool will need to replace Sadio Mane if he completes a move to Bayern Munich and Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Nunez, who scored in both legs of the Champions League quarter-final between the two sides this season.
United have made signings in midfield and attack their priority this summer and Nunez fits the bill as a versatile young forward, who can play either out wide or as a central striker.
The departure of Edinson Cavani has left Cristiano Ronaldo as United's only natural centre forward and the Portuguese will turn 38 in February.
Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica last season and his decision to link up with super-agent Jorge Mendes in April was an indication he expected to leave Portugal this summer.
United have held talks over Nunez, but no deal is imminent and they don't want to be dragged into a bidding war for the player.
Football director John Murtough is in charge of United's recruitment this summer and while there isn't a cap on the transfer budget, United plan to spend within their means and there is a limit to what they would pay for transfer targets.
