Manchester United stance on Anthony Elanga future after Brentford goal

Manchester United have no plans to loan Anthony Elanga out this month after his recent breakthrough in the first-team.

The Swedish teenager netted United's opener against Brentford on Wednesday night as he made his second senior start in the space of just five days.

MEN Sport revealed last week that there is significant interest being shown in a loan deal for Elanga, 19, this month and United would have no trouble at all matching the young winger with an appropriate move at a competitive level.

The Sweden youth international was also understood to be open to a possible move in his pursuit of first-team football, though that now looks highly unlikely given his impact over the past week.

United were always reluctant to let Elanga leave this month amid an ongoing pandemic that could see their squad depth tested to the limits and Ralf Rangnick has himself been eager to work closely with the youngster.

The interim manager showed his faith in the teenager on Wednesday night by letting him keep his place in the starting line up despite having more experienced options available for the win at Brentford.

Rangnick, like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is a huge fan of the teenage talent and already recognises him as a first-team player rather than a youth team hopeful.

Last summer, almost half of the sides in the Championship expressed an interest in signing Elanga on loan, but Solskjaer chose to keep him at Old Trafford in order for him to learn daily from some of the world's best attackers.

United announced on Christmas Eve last year that the teenager had signed a new deal at the club — his second new contract only nine months after signing his previous at the club.
