Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson has said that his situation at Manchester United has put him "behind" in the England pecking order.
Henderson, 25, joined the Reds on a season-long loan in the summer after managing only five appearances in all competitions last season for United. The goalkeeper was forced to be David de Gea's understudy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, despite reported promises of first team football, after contracting coronavirus early in the season.
He replaced Brice Samba at the City Ground as Steve Cooper's number one this season and has impressed in the opening seven games of the campaign. Despite conceding 17 goals, Henderson has made 4.1 saves per game and has denied Declan Rice and Harry Kane from the penalty spot in games against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

After previously voicing his anger at his treatment at United, Henderson has now suggested his lack of playing time last campaign could stop him from being included in England's World Cup squad in November. He told Sky Sports: "I think I'm behind at the minute.
"Obviously, last season not playing so much and the other lads have done unbelievably well.
“I knew the best chance to do that was to come out and play football and being in Gareth Southgate’s eye and hopefully leaving a good impression.”
Henderson currently has fierce competition in Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope. In Friday's defeat against Italy, Newcastle's Pope started due to Pickford's absence. Henderson has eight more Premier League games to convince Gareth Southgate to take him to Qatar in November.
