Manchester United have been told they do not need to sign Christian Eriksen.
The Dane is a free agent this summer after an incredible January comeback with Brentford just seven months after his on-field cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. The playmaker assisted four goals in 11 Premier League games, also scoring against Chelsea.
He had been linked with a move to Tottenham, but United are now favourites to land Eriksen after Spurs failed to chase up their initial enquiries. The Manchester Evening News understands Erik ten Hag is eager to make him one of his signings this summer.

However, ex-England midfielder Danny Murphy has questioned whether it would be a wise move for United. Speaking on talkSPORT, he described how it will be difficult to fit both him and Bruno Fernandes into the team.
“If Erik ten Hag thinks he’s going to play Eriksen and Fernandes in the same team in a midfield with only one holding player, they'll end up finishing worse off than this season,” he said. “Is he going to bring him (Eriksen) in as a back-up for Fernandes, play as a 10?
“Or is he going to play him as a central midfielder? If you bring in (Frenkie) De Jong and Eriksen in the midfield, where’s the tenacity, where the tough tackling physical presence?
“There isn’t one. That’s a strange one for United, why they want Eriksen, I don’t get that. They’ve got enough creative players.”
Murphy added: “So United think they are going to get someone from Brentford and been one of Tottenham's best players in the past, in an unsuccessful era when they won nothing, they think bringing in Eriksen is going to make them more competitive?”
The former Liverpool player went on to concede, however, that for Eriksen himself, a move to United would be attractive at the age of 30.
