Manchester United’s most two-footed star will have impressed Erik ten Hag as extra training sessions held

Manchester United's most two-footed player will have impressed Erik ten Hag in training after news emerged of wrong-footed training sessions at the club.

The Manchester Evening News revealed that United's new manager has concentrated efforts in training on improving the weaker foot of certain players. It is believed that Ten Hag is concerned with the squad's shortage of left-footed players, which prompted the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Antony this summer.

The former Ajax boss has not been hesitant to stamp his authority at United during his first few months at Old Trafford. Ten Hag has been keen to instil his philosophy among the squad as quickly as possible in his bid to stop the rut that United have found themselves in for nearly a decade since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure.

Although United have an array of predominantly right-footed stars, that isn't to say the club are short of players who can use both feet. In fact, research that looked into how flexible United players are in terms of their passing, revealed the club's most versatile player when it comes to using both feet.

Fred topped the charts as United's most flexible passer, comfortably using both his left and right foot. Surprisingly, 22-year-old Brandon Williams came in second, showing his potential at the club, despite his lack of involvement under Ten Hag so far.

This research was conducted before the arrival of Christian Eriksen this summer, which could somewhat throw a spanner in the works. The midfielder's technical ability on the ball has been clear to see, and his comments during his time at Inter Milan go some way to backing this up as well.

Eriksen said: "I’m undoubtedly right-footed, but I of course like to play with my left too. I've always been used to playing with both feet. You see me take free kicks on my right, but I could also take them with my left."

However, not all of United's squad are believed to be so gifted with both feet. The MEN reported that Luke Shaw is one of the players that has participated in Ten Hag's extra training sessions to strengthen the use of his right foot, as the Dutchman looks to emphasise the importance of being able to use either foot.
