Manchester United’s long-lasting link with Barcelona wantaway would be welcomed under one condition

When you're a club the size of Manchester United, there is rarely a way of avoiding links with all kinds of players. Ousmane Dembele is one player who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Despite his incredible talent, Dembele has struggled with injuries throughout his career, which have often been the main issue that has held him back and has ultimately seen him out of favour at Barcelona.

In MEN's deadline day Facebook Live, United on my Mind's regular duo of Mike Parrott and Casey Evans discussed all the gossip and potential movements, including the links with Dembele.

CE : "A lot of reports from France, Spain and from across Europe linking Ousmane Dembele with an £18m move to Manchester United. I think Chelsea were also in the mix, and I think PSG was also thrown into the mix.

"Our chief reporter Samuel Lukchurst put on his Twitter saying that from his understanding and the information he has received, is that United have not registered an official bid for Dembele nor are they looking to sign him. They feel like the bit that unites them is just being thrown into the mix to try and drum up interest from broad.

"I know he's had his problems with injury, but on his day, he's a fantastic player. You'd be getting what Barcelona paid £130m for about £20m, and I think what we've seen so far this season is we have a genuine problem where creativity on the pitch is an issue.

"I think Paul Pogba is coming back, which will help that Bruno Fernandes is obviously their agenda, Sancho, and then after that, it's a lot of forwards and a lot of defensive eyes, a lot of work in the midfield, and we maybe need some more creativity."

MP: "I think a big thing regardless of transfer fee and what people need to take into account to his wages as well. Let's say we only get him for £20m; he's on 300k a week, then we're in that same situation that we've been in for years that we are still trying to recover.

"From where we are trying to get rid of these players so we can save a bit of money because we've given them such inflated wages, no one will buy them permanently.

So that's always a worry because, yes, you could get this player cheap, but he might have a four-year deal now where he has preposterous wages, he might be injured the majority of it, and then we can't sell him.

"So that's a bit of my worry. If you could get in for cheap, though, in terms of wages, then I won't be too against it. Maybe if you could give him that shot of redemption we've seen with the likes of Philippe Coutinho do a bit better with Aston Villa. He did okay at Bayern Munich when he went on loan there.

"And if he could come back a bit better, not saying he's going to be this world-beater that everyone thought he was going to be years ago. But if he showed a bit more talent, he could be a great player and obviously can play on both wings."
