Manchester United's Harry Maguire winds up Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson in England training

England made a winning start to 2022 with a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Trailing to Breel Embolo's header, England turned the game on its head, thanks to goals from Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw and Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane either side of half-time. Kane's 78th-minute penalty clinched victory for Gareth Southgate's side, meaning they will be looking to make it nine games unbeaten in all settings when they face the Ivory Coast on Tuesday evening.

Southgate used the opportunity to blood new faces into the England team, with Kyle Walker-Peters of Southampton and Crystal Palace duo Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell all winning their first caps. Experienced figures such as Jordan Pickford, Jordan Henderson and Mason Mount also featured, but there was no run out for United skipper Harry Maguire.

The centre-back was forced to settle for a place on the bench, suggesting that he will be in line to feature on Tuesday. Despite his United woes this season, the centre-back has been a consistent performer for the Three Lions and Southgate is fully supportive of the former Sheffield United man.

But whilst he may not have featured in the win over Switzerland, Maguire made his presence within the camp felt in training in the build-up to the match. That is because he was involved in a humorous moment with Liverpool skipper Henderson.

In footage released on England's official Twitter account, it has shown a selection of the Three Lions' players, including Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, involved in a game of 'rondo'. The aim of the game is for a circle of players to pass the ball around, most often taking just once touch, whilst two team-mates attempt to press them and win possession back.

With Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and Manchester City ace Grealish attempting to win the ball, Henderson was speaking out loud, keeping count of how many successful passes had been completed without the aforementioned duo getting hold of possession. But as Henderson edged past 40, saying "41, 42, 43," Maguire controlled the ball with his left boot and put his right foot on top of it.

Despite it being nothing more than a training exercise, Henderson was visibly furious with the United captain. He glared at him and said: "What are you doing?"

The Liverpool midfielder looked genuinely angry with Maguire, suggesting that he takes the drill incredibly seriously. Unfortunately, the video was cut before we got a chance to see how Maguire responded to his England team-mate, both of whom played a key role in the run to the final of the European Championship last summer.
