Manchester United's Christian Eriksen sends message to Raphael Varane after injury vs Chelsea

Christian Eriksen has admitted Manchester United will miss Raphael Varane if he is sidelined with an injury.

United drew 1-1 with Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening following a dramatic, late equaliser from Casemiro, but the result was marred by an injury that Varane sustained in the second half, which forced him to be substituted.

Varane went down in the 55th after a mistimed challenge and he appeared to have hurt his ankle. Varane received treatment for the problem and he looked visibly upset when leaving the pitch, with the World Cup perhaps in his thoughts.

Erik ten Hag confirmed after the draw that Varane will have the injury assessed but that it's too early for a diagnosis. Eriksen was asked about United's performance at Stamford Bridge and his teammates' injury after the game, and he delivered his verdict:

"It was a big relief [to score], compared to six minutes before that," Eriksen told MUTV. "The penalty was a big blow, but it shows the character and what a nice header. It was a high-intensity game and a lot of players were tired in the end

"They felt very happy with the penalty that were given and it gave them more confidence, but then for us to fight back and force something, I think we did very well. I think most of the first half we played really well and created chances.

"We were more dominant and we should have made it easier for ourselves in the first half. His [Varane] history is not in his favour, but since I've been here, he's been incredible shape and he's done incredible in the games. We're going to miss him.

"We'll see what has happened and we'll support him as a team. I think so [overall positive week], we always aim to be better than what we've had, but overall we can be proud of what we achieved. Wednesday was a big performance.

"To top it up today would have been perfect, but we're on the right path to something that's going to be more fun."
