Manchester United reveals new-look badge on latest training range

Manchester United has revealed a new-look badge that features a new take on the Red Devil.

The club has redesigned its club badge for a new range of training gear and clothing in time for the Lunar New Year and the latest iteration of the club badge is based on Chinese-style calligraphy. The badge ditches the circular design used on the club's kits and instead features a calligraphy-style Red Devil in honour of the Chinese New Year.

The badge will not appear on kits but is included on a new £140 padded jacket, t-shirts, hoodies and training pants. The new range is available for pre-order for fans on the Manchester United website with deliveries set to take place in February.

The t-shirt, available in black and white, is priced at £55 and the red hoodie, which features a calligraphy-style Manchester United club name on the front, is priced at £85.

The Adidas designs are, says the club, 'big and bold'. It says: "You'll notice the detail in the devil when you cast a glance at this Manchester United football tee. Big and bold on its chest, the club's famous symbol is intricately depicted using Chinese calligraphy. In place of the traditional red calligrapher's."

The new range was launched with a photoshoot featuring David De Gea, Garnacho and Anthony wearing the clothing and holding classic Chinese symbology including hand fans.

It is not the first time Manchester United has modified the club's badge, with the last change to the official badge coming in 1998 when the words 'Football Club' were removed and the colours were changed on a number of aspects of the badge itself. The Red Devil first appeared on the club's badge in the 1940s. It was removed in the 1960s but was reinstated a decade later and has remained on the badge ever since.

The Lunar New Year, often referred to as Chinese New Year, is on 22 January. The coming Chinese New Year will be the year of the Rabbit, more specifically, Water Rabbit.
