Manchester United pre-season tour squad announced as 31 players included

Manchester United have confirmed their squad for the first pre-season tour under new manager Erik ten Hag.

United will depart for their summer schedule from Manchester Airport on Friday afternoon ahead of their first match under Ten Hag next week.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel to Thailand with the rest of the United squad after he was granted additional time off to deal with a family issue that has prevented him from training this week.

The 37-year-old is the only senior international who has not reported for pre-season training this week. It emerged last week that the Portugal international wanted to leave United.

Summer signing Tyrell Malacia has been included in the 31-man squad named by Ten Hag, though the club has not been able to complete a deal for Christian Eriksen in time for him to be included.

United begin their summer schedule with a trip to Thailand to face old foes Liverpool next Tuesday, before flying to Australia where they will face Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Then comes a busy weekend featuring a match against Atletico Madrid in Oslo and a clash with Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford within a day of one another.

Ten Hag is set to give a number of youngsters a chance to impress him over the coming weeks, with academy hopefuls Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage both named in the tour squad.

They are joined by fellow teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Hannibal Mejbri as well as more experienced youngsters Ethan Laird and Nathan Bishop.

Tahith Chong and James Garner have both travelled, with the latter set to be given a chance to impress the new United manager following his impressive loan-spell with Nottingham Forest last summer.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alex Telles, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly have all been included in the travelling squad despite being free to leave the club this summer.

Anthony Martial was also deemed surplus to requirements however there is a growing belief he might still have a role to play going forward amid the uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo.

Phil Jones, Brandon Williams and Andreas Pereira have not been named in the squad with all three expected to leave the club this summer. United say Jones is following a tailored fitness programme to prepare for the new season, Williams has a 'small issue' and Pereira has been given time off after returning from loan at Flamengo.

There was also no room for Alvaro Fernandez, Shola Shoretire, Teden Mengi and Di'Shon Bernard ahead of potential loan exits.
