Manchester United player Tyrell Malacia responds to Gary Neville comments on Brentford performance

Tyrell Malacia said he will use praise from the likes of Gary Neville to aid his development, but is not letting himself get carried away with kind words from club legends.

Malacia, 23, signed for United from Feyenoord for €15million (£12.9million), with a potential €2million in further add-ons, this summer and the Netherlands international penned a four-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The left-back was Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer window, but he started on the bench for the first two games of the new Premier League season. Luke Shaw started against Brighton and Brentford and United were defeated in both of those fixtures.

Ten Hag dropped Shaw to the bench and started Malacia against Liverpool and he's been first-choice at left-back since. Malacia has played a key role in United climbing up the table and the Reds have conceded just two league goals since the Brentford debacle.

The left-back is currently on international duty with the Netherlands and he has been asked for his thoughts on the season so far. Malacia identified Liverpool as the turning point in the campaign and he admitted he is relishing the chance to start every week.

"Yes, definitely beautiful [Premier League], sure if you get to be here. Especially now that I get to play every week," Malacia told ESPN. "I think so [Liverpool turning point]. Of course, we didn't start the first two games well. The training week after that you see that you get to start in the starting eleven and you get to start against Liverpool. What more do you want? The intensity is a bit higher. Every week is a final. That is a big difference, but I focus on my own game."

Speaking earlier this month, United great Neville praised Malacia for his "personality, fight and spirit" after coming on as a second-half substitute in the loss to Brentford several weeks prior.

In response, Malacia said: "Those are nice words and I will definitely take them into my development, but we have to watch my performance from game to game."
