Manchester United player ratings vs Everton: Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho poor

David de Gea

Could do nothing about Anthony Gordon's goal. Alert to tip Richarlison's shot over and had little else to do. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Started reasonably and then he showed Richarlison inside for the opening goal. Eager enough but lacking quality. 5

Victor Lindelof

Seemed to be the most organised of the United defenders but Everton sometimes still preyed on his lack of physicality. 5

Harry Maguire

Unfortunate with Gordon's shot that deflected in off him but against such opposition he could have carried the ball forward but rarely did. 5

Alex Telles

Another uninspiring performance from the back-up left-back. The odd corner was okay but Telles looked like what he is - a squad player. 5

Nemanja Matic

Meekly challenged Alex Iwobi for the ball that ran to Gordon when he scored. Had no visible impact on the midfield and came off after the hour. 5

Fred

Lasted 35 minutes before coming off injured. Performed sloppily until he was replaced by Paul Pogba. 4

Bruno Fernandes

Created a couple of opportunities for Marcus Rashford in a typically Fernandes performance: something out of nothing but otherwise nothing else. 4

Marcus Rashford

Began brightly and denied twice by Jordan Pickford at 0-0 but then strangely switched wings with Jadon Sancho. Had a decent chance early in the second-half. Harshly substituted. 6

Jadon Sancho

Started on the right but, like almost every other United winger, reiterated his preference for playing from the left. Poor again. 4

Cristiano Ronaldo

A quiet first-half in which he was devoid of service. The second-half was maybe quieter and his frustration got the better of him when he was booked for punting the ball. Squandered late chance. 4

Subs

Paul Pogba

Booked, had a shot saved and little impact overall. 5

Juan Mata

Couldn't unlock Everton. 5

Anthony Elanga

Another callow performance. 5

Manager

There was little to take umbrage with about the starting XI but switching Sancho and Rashford was ill-advised and Jesse Lingard was ignored again as a potential game-changer. 4
