David de Gea
Stood up well to block Kaoru Mitoma's third-minute chance with his face and carried on. 6
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Was involved in an absorbing duel with Mitoma, who had more joy than in the FA Cup semi-final, yet Wan-Bissaka still kept him at bay. 6
Victor Lindelof
His casual pass was intercepted by Mitoma for Brighton's early chance but other than that lapse he was a calm presence. 6

Luke Shaw
So authoritative again in his fourth match running at centre half it is easy to forget he is playing out of position. Barely put a foot wrong. Then he erred with his hand. 6
Diogo Dalot
Relocated to left-back and understandably cautious with his work cut out. Defended with discipline and earned appreciation from De Gea. 6
Casemiro
Went close with a header and booked again for a needlessly rash tackle on Alexis Mac Allister. Lucky not to be sent off for a lunge on Moises Caicedo. 5
Fred
A logical starter to counter Caicedo but he was not remotely influential and too often sloppy with his passes. 5
Antony
Squandered a great chance in the second-minute. His link-up play was decent but frustration got the better of him and he was booked for a malicious foul. 6
Bruno Fernandes
His risk-taking was warranted with United's directness having some joy against Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster's. Waned after the pause. 6
Marcus Rashford
Bright and engineered a good chance only for his shot to be too close to Jadon Steele. Switched roles with Anthony Martial in the second half. 6
Anthony Martial
Berated by Ten Hag and then had a good chance just before half time but failed to keep it down. Another goalless start. 5
Subs
Jadon Sancho
A rare appearance on the right. 5
Marcel Sabitzer
Pressed urgently. 5
Wout Weghorst
Late cameo. 5
Manager
Freshened the team up with some logical changes but only Wan-Bissaka performed to a remotely respectable level. Did little to address the midfield and Brighton earned their win. 5
