David de Gea
Some awkward moments against Brentford's press but made a dependable stop from Christian Eriksen's free-kick. 7
Diogo Dalot
Eager as always but his end product was lacking. Hit the crossbar but Cristiano Ronaldo was offside in the build-up. 6
Victor Lindelof
Key header when Eriksen was shaping up to shoot and, although Brentford had spells of pressure, United kept a clean sheet. 7

Raphael Varane
Fortunate Ivan Toney did not punish him with a header but improved and scored his first goal for the club. 7
Alex Telles
Breached inside the first 10 seconds but recovered. Targeted at times but still came up with another assist from a corner. 6
Nemanja Matic
Another steady starting role crowned with a moment of class, alas Bruno Fernandes pulled his shot wide. Booked before he made way. 6
Scott McTominay
Fortunate to start after his horror show against Chelsea and he was not much better against another west London side. 5
Anthony Elanga
Superb run-and-cross to assist Bruno Fernandes. Like his attacking academy predecessors, Elanga is not as effective running backwards as he is forwards. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Relocated to the left and stealthily met Elanga's cross to score his 10th goal of the season. Did little thereafter. 6
Juan Mata
A joy to watch on his final Old Trafford appearance, Mata enhanced United's attack and got more out of the forwards. Undeniably underused in his final three years. 8
Cristiano Ronaldo
Flexible off the ball and fluid on it, he was denied a goal by the slenderest of margins. Still got his goal with the penalty. Another fine performance. 8
Subs
Fred
Looked in decent nick on his comeback. 6
Phil Jones
Possibly his last Old Trafford appearance. 6
Edinson Cavani
Another who bade farewell. 5
Manager
The only issue with Mata's selection was why it had not come sooner. Substituting on more senior players was a pity. 6
