Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams explains reason for that Christian Eriksen moment

Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams has explained what happened between himself and Brentford's Christian Eriksen during Norwich's defeat to the Bees on Saturday.

Midway through the first half at Carrow Road last weekend, the pair both fell to the floor before Williams turned to Eriksen and looked set to engage in a scuffle. Instead, the Englishman ended up hugging his opponent.

For the Dane, it was a monumental occasion as he made his first competitive start since suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 campaign in the summer. It was just his second appearance for Thomas Frank's side, nearly nine months after the horrific moment in Copenhagen.

Williams told Sky Sports : "Obviously, it’s a moment that just happens, it was just instinct. I got past him and I felt him pull me down. We were on the attack and I was really angry.

"I was going to hold him but then I know what he’s been through and it’s incredible what he’s done. He’s back now and it’s something special for him to be back on the pitch for himself and to be involved in that, I felt like he needed a hug.

"It’s something that no player wants to go through. It was amazing that he’s back and he’s a top-quality player and I’m sure that he’ll get back to his best very soon."
