Manchester United legend slams "totally pointless" Harry Kane in scathing attack

Paul Parker says he would "never want" Harry Kane at Manchester United and insists his signing would be "totally pointless".

Kane has scored 198 goals in 300 Premier League appearances and is one of the most lethal strikers in the world at the moment, currently sitting second to Erling Haaland in the top-flight scoring charts. He added another two to his tally with an impressive brace in Tottenham's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old is also on the verge of breaking Wayne Rooney's all-time goalscoring record for England, with Kane currently on 53 for his country - the same as the ex-Manchester United man. However, in a scathing verdict of Kane, former United defender Parker stated that wouldn't take him at Old Trafford - even with the Red Devils looking to sign a striker following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure

Parker told MyBettingSites: "I would never want Harry Kane in Man United. Man United needs to sign a centre forward and not a midfield player which is what Harry Kane is. It would be a totally pointless signing. All he would do in Man United would be to drop down to the midfield and play with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

"I saw the rumours on social media and some people wanted him to come, but if they really do that I don’t believe that they have ever watched Harry Kane play. He is not a good focal point for a team and he played terribly for Tottenham against Aston Villa once again.

"So the answer is a very clear: No, I don’t want him at Man United."

In stark contrast, after his impressive brace against Palace at Selhurst Park, Graham Souness backed up his verdict that Kane is England's only world-class player and praised the forward.

"He’s a class act. He is the one England player who is truly world class, for me,’ Souness told Sky Sports. "My definition of world class is someone who could go anywhere and be welcomed by any team in the world. I’m not sure if any other England players do that."

Nevertheless, the Scotsman claimed that Kane had a poor World Cup and was the reason why the Three Lions didn't make it further than the quarter-finals.

He added: "I thought he had a disappointing World Cup, I’m an enormous fan but I think he had a disappointing World Cup I said before, if England could win it then it has to be Harry on form, I don’t think that happened.

"I think they’ll finish in the top four simply because of him, if they keep him fit. Because he is goals. He’s Mr Goals! You don’t have to be playing very well to win games if you’ve got Harry Kane in your team."
