Manchester United launch Rangers scouting mission as 'many clubs monitoring' rising star Leon King

Leon King is the subject of interest for many clubs after his performances of late for Rangers - including Manchester United.

The young centre-back has had to step up for the Light Blues amid their injury concerns in his position, starting against an elite forward line last week in a 2-0 Rangers loss against Liverpool in the Champions League. Despite defeat, the youngster did himself no harm with a solid personal showing and it has now gathered interest.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, 'many clubs are monitoring' the Ibrox academy product. He goes on to claim that 'Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds have already sent their scouts to follow King.' Scottish football has become a hotbed for English clubs to scout amid new laws in Brexit's aftermath, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp saying last week it was a 'really cool' place to scour for talent after they signed Ben Doak and Calvin Ramsey from Celtic and Aberdeen.

Rangers are no strangers to losing talent to clubs in England, having watched lethal striker Rory Wilson opt for Aston Villa in the summer.

They got to see fellow academy product Nathan Patterson break onto the senior scene before he left for Everton in January.

It's become a growing trend but it's now just a recent thing at Rangers when it comes to their youth talent, Scotland internationally Billy Gilmour leaving Glasgow for Chelsea when he was on the cusp of first-team involvement.
