Manchester United launch Andre Onana transfer bid with opening £39m offer

Manchester United have made an opening bid of £39million for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

United manager Erik ten Hag has made his former Ajax No1 next transfer target after signing Mason Mount in a £60m deal from Chelsea.

Onana is ready to move to Old Trafford but negotiations are set to continue, with Inter holding out for over £50m. United’s first offer was an initial £35m plus £4m in add-ons.

Chelsea had targeted Onana but have since ended their interest in the 27-year-old.

Interest in Onana casts further doubt over David de Gea’s future after his contract expired last week.

United insist they remain in negotiations with their long-term No1, but the Spain international has expressed his frustration at the slow pace of talks on social media.

De Gea was United’s highest earner on £375,000-a-week and is being asked to lower his wage. The arrival of Onana would threaten his status as United’s first-choice.

Nottingham Forest are waiting for resolution of United’s goalkeeper situation in their attempts to sign Dean Henderson.

As it stands, United could go into next season with Henderson as their No1 if they do not secure either Onana or De Gea.

After resolving their goalkeeper situation, United will then look to sign a striker with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund topping their shortlist of forward targets.

It is unclear whether United will be able to sign two major players without either securing a windfall from player sales or a potential takeover going through, amid ongoing concerns about historic Financial Fair Play performance.
