Manchester United join race for Leeds United target and Watford winger Ismaila Sarr

Manchester United are considering a move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, according to a report from 90 Min. Sarr is reportedly on Leeds United’s shortlist to replace Raphinha, which also includes PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo and Stade Rennes’ Martin Terrier.

The Red Devils are reportedly turning their attention to the Senegalese international after ending their pursuit in Marko Arnautovic. Sky Sports News revealed last week that Man United had a £7.6m bid rejected by Bologna for the former Stoke City and West Ham United forward.

Bologna’s asking price was believed to be more than Man United were prepared to pay, which has prompted the Red Devils to pursue other targets.

Sarr has been linked with a move away from Vicarage Road for the last two seasons. A move is yet to materialise with Watford’s €35m valuation proving a major stumbling block for prospective buyers.

The 24-year-old joined Watford from Stade Rennes on a five-year contract for a fee in the region of £30m in August 2019. Sarr scored twice in a famous 3-0 win over Liverpool in February 2020 but marked his debut season with five league goals as the Hornets were relegated to the Championship.

He finished as Watford’s leading scorer with 13 goals as they secured an immediate return to the Premier League in 2020/21 but suffered his second relegation with the club last term.

Sarr, who won the Africa Cup of Nations in February, has started the new Championship season strongly. After setting up Joao Pedro’s winning goal against Sheffield United in their opening fixture, Sarr scored an incredible lob from inside his own half in Watford’s 1-1 draw at West Brom on Monday.
