Manchester United issue Raphael Varane injury update ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United have received a big injury boost ahead of their trip to Arsenal, with Raphael Varane returning to training.

The defender is among three United players to return this week after missing Tuesday’s defeat to Liverpool. Cristiano Ronaldo and Scott McTominay have also been back at Carrington ahead of Saturday’s trip to London.

Varane has missed United’s last three games through injury, with his only appearance so far this month coming in the 1-1 draw with Leicester. The France international has been a big miss for United, particularly during the 4-0 defeat at Anfield.

Varane had hoped to make a return for the clash on Merseyside but was not risked by United interim boss Ralf Rangnick. The 28-year-old now looks to be back in contention for the weekend, with Rangnick set to give an update on Friday at his pre-match press conference.

Ronaldo has also been back in training this week, having missed the defeat to Liverpool following the tragic passing of his newborn son. The Portuguese ace has received countless messages of support, with fans at Anfield joining together to applaud in the seventh minute of the game on Tuesday night.

McTominay, who was named on the bench in midweek, also looks to be back in the running for a start against Arsenal. The Scotland international’s return comes as a boost after United suffered another injury setback during Tuesday’s defeat.

Paul Pogba was replaced just 10 minutes into the game, with Rangnick suggesting he could miss the upcoming games against Arsenal and Chelsea with a calf injury. Fred is also in a race against time to be fit.

Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw are certainly out of Saturday’s fixture. The pair may well miss the remainder of the season, with both set to be sidelined until May.
