Manchester United issue Marcus Rashford injury update ahead of Newcastle United clash

Manchester United have confirmed that Marcus Rashford has returned to training following an injury he suffered in their FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham, but stressed that "he will be a concern" ahead of their game against Newcastle United.

Newcastle return to Premier League action on Sunday as they host Man United at St James' Park. Eddie Howe's side can take revenge on the Red Devils for their Carabao Cup heartbreak by leapfrogging them in the table and moving up to third with a win.

Rashford, who scored against the Magpies at Wembley, had to withdraw from the England squad through injury after picking up a knock in their 3-1 win over Fulham. The forward remains to be a doubt for the game against Newcastle but Man United have now confirmed that the 25-year-old has returned to training after being pictured in New York during the international break.

"Marcus Rashford has started his recovery at Carrington after sustaining an injury in our last fixture, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham," a club statement read. "Marcus was able to get out on the grass at our training base on Monday but the Reds' leading goalscorer could only take part in a small session, away from the main group."

The club also confirmed that there was no ball work involved for the 25-year-old and added: "Rashford's fitness will be a concern heading into the Premier League clash at Newcastle United on Sunday."

Erik ten Hag is expected to provide another update on his fitness during his pre-match press conference later in the week.
