Manchester United injury update: Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Mason Mount latest news and return dates

Manchester United are set to have their injury situation significantly improved this month.

Erik ten Hag's side endured a miserable end to 2023, winning one of their last six matches across all competitions, and they sit seventh in the Premier League.

United travel to face Wigan in the FA Cup on January 8, with their next League assignment coming when they host Tottenham on January 14.

By that point, Ten Hag could have his options bolstered, with the likes of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Harry Maguire all close to returning after injury.

Lisandro Martinez

Ten Hag has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez will return to action this month.

The defender has been out since September with a foot injury, but United are expected to receive a major boost in the next couple of weeks

“Well, I am really good, I am really good, honestly,” Martinez said at the end of December.“My rehab is going amazingly, in the way that I want, I am feeling strong, doing everything right."

He added: “I know that I will be back soon, very soon. It takes time, we need to be patient.”

Casemiro

Casemiro is another one who will return for United in January, assuming he does not suffer any setbacks.

The Brazilian was taken off at half-time in the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle at the start of November and has been out with a hamstring injury since.

Mason Mount

It has been a hugely frustrating first season at Old Trafford for Mason Mount, who has made just four Premier League starts.

A calf injury has kept Mount on the sidelines for nearly two months, but he returned to light training on the grass next week.

The FA Cup trip to Wigan could come too soon, but there is a possibility that Mount will be back in contention in time to face Spurs.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw picked up what was described as a "minor" issue ahead of the Boxing Day clash, and he missed out on the squad again for the trip to Nottingham Forest.

The indication is that Shaw's injury is not a serious one, meaning he could feature against Wigan next week.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire is on the list of players expected to return in January.

The centre-back suffered a groin injury against Bayern Munich last month, with Ten Hag saying at the time he would miss "the coming games".

The England centre-back has been out for four Premier League games, and now has another fortnight to recover in time to face Tottenham.

Victor Lindelof

Centre-back Victor Lindelof underwent "successful surgery on a minor groin issue" just before Christmas.

United confirmed that Lindelof would be out for just over a month, so it is unlikely that the 29-year-old returns before February.

Tyrell Malacia

Injury has prevented Tyrell Malacia from making a single appearance so far this season.

The left-back had surgery on a knee injury over the summer and then suffered a further setback, requiring a second operation.

Malacia has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks, and could make his long-awaited return this month.

Potential return date: January 14 vs Tottenham

Anthony Martial

Illness has kept Anthony Martial on the sidelines for nearly a month, with the Frenchman not featuring since the defeat to Bournemouth in early December.

Updates on Martial's situation have been vague, with Ten Hag recently only stating: "He’s unwell, he’s not available."

Potential return date: January 8 vs Wigan
