Manchester United have held initial talks with Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres over a potential transfer next summer.
The 26-year-old is enjoying a prolific season with 24 goals from 20 appearances in all competitions.
In that time he scored a stunning hat-trick in Sporting’s 4-1 victory over Man City – a side also linked with the Swedish striker.
That, along with Ruben Amorim’s switch from Sporting to Manchester United, has only heightened speculation of a move to Old Trafford.
Amorim has previously stated he will not raid Sporting for new signings in the January window, though a move after the season remains possible.
Manchester United ‘Would Have To Make Sales Before Signing Gyokeres’
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Manchester United have held talks with Gyokeres.
However, it is claimed that the Red Devils would have to make some sales before they could spend big money on the former Coventry striker.
It is also said that Man City have intensified their efforts in recent weeks.

The Red Devils could be on the hunt for a new striker. Marcus Rashford is currently playing up front despite spending most of his recent years out wide.
Joshua Zirkzee netted for the first time in the Premier League since the opening day of the season on Sunday as he bagged a brace in the 4-0 win over Everton.
Rasmus Hojlund, who United paid £72m for last year, has been a substitute in both of Amorim’s Premier League matches in charge, but didn’t come off the bench on Sunday.
Viktor Gyokeres Will Stay With Sporting Until The End Of The Season
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted last month that Manchester United target Gyokeres wants to play his football at Sporting until the end of the season.
“I want to finish this season at Sporting. I love it here. New club? We will see when the time comes. I want to play, that’s crucial… and there will be also other factors,” Gyokeres said.
Nonetheless, the Red Devils will reignite their interest in the 26-year-old at the end of the current campaign. Currently, Gyokeres has a release clause of £83 million. In the summer, he can leave for just £63 million.
