Manchester United great David Beckham reacts to photo of Sir Alex Ferguson and Erik ten Hag

David Beckham has paid tribute to the Manchester United players and acknowledged Erik ten Hag as the new 'Boss' following the Reds' 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

United had to deal with early pressure in the opening stages of the Wembley showpiece but managed to silence the Magpies just after the half hour mark. A brilliantly whipped free kick by Luke Shaw was flicked home by Casemiro.

There was some concern that the Brazilian was offside but after a close VAR review the goal was awarded. Ten Hag's men nearly finished the match as a contest in the 38th minute when a through ball by Wout Weghorst picked out Marcus Rashford.

The in-form United man's strike was deflected off Sven Botman and over Loris Karius to double the advantage. Eddie Howe's team tried to rally in the second 45 but struggled to put the Reds in any real peril as Ten Hag secured the club's sixth League Cup and first of his era.

After the final whistle, ex-United star Beckham was quick to send his congratulations to his former club. In a series of Instagram story posts, the 47-year-old first branded the club as 'champions' before adding: "Well done to Erik and the boys..."

In his second post, Beckham shared a picture of Ten Hag and Sir Alex Ferguson with the Carabao Cup, alongside the caption: "The Boss and the Boss." During his time at Old Trafford, the former England captain won six Premier Leagues, the Champions League, two FA Cups and four Community Shields.
