Manchester United give update on Donny van de Beek injury

Manchester United are still investigating Donny van de Beek's knee injury he sustained in their Premier League win over Bournemouth.

Van de Beek was forced off in added time of the first half on Tuesday night after his leg buckled under a challenge from Marcos Senesi.

When asked if United knew how long Van de Beek would be sidelined Ten Hag replied: "Not really, we are still doing investigations - it's a knee injury."

United are certain to stray close to six years without a trophy and if they end the season without any silverware it will be the club's longest drought since the nine years between the European Cup triumph in 1968 and the FA Cup win in 1977.

Ten Hag won a league and cup double with Ajax in 2018-19 when they ended a five-year stretch without the championship and won the Dutch cup before the Eredivisie.

United entertain Everton in the FA Cup third round on Friday night before Charlton Athletic visit Old Trafford in the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday. "We have a lot of opportunities to win a trophy," Ten Hag stressed. "We are still in many competitions.

"To win a trophy is something great. It will give you experience and help you to win more titles and more trophies, maybe also bigger trophies, that is definitely true.

"So first you have to go over the limit and get that experience because it’s always the same players always winning trophies and that’s not a coincidence.

"It has to do of course with his capabilities and often with mentality. I think we have some players in this team who have that experience and can help us."
