Manchester United give Raphael Varane injury update

Manchester United will assess Raphael Varane over the next 24 hours to determine the severity of his injury.

Varane came off in the 60th minute against Chelsea in what was his second injury of the month, having limped off against Manchester City three weeks ago. The 29-year-old appeared to conceal tears before he walked around the pitch to the dugout unaided.

"Nothing in this moment," United manager Erik ten Hag replied when asked about Varane. "We have all seen he came off but with an injury like this we always have to wait a minimum 24 hours and the medical staff can do their job and can set the diagnosis.

"I can understand (his reaction), we can all probably understand he will be emotional but he also has to wait, you don't know.

"He's experienced but the medicals have to do their job, have to make an assessment, set the right diagnosis and from there on come to the conclusion."

Casemiro nodded in a 94th-minute equaliser to earn United a deserved point at Chelsea, who led through Jorginho's 87th-minute penalty. United remain a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea with three more Premier League games before the season is halted for the World Cup.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial both absent, United struggled to score despite creating three standout chances in the first-half for Marcus Rashford and Antony. Ten Hag was reluctant to dwell on the Ronaldo issue.

"Of course, it's a big moment in that manner to get a point here, to collect a point, a well-deserved point," Ten Hag explained. "But it doesn't have any matter with the cases (Ronaldo) you mean, with that case, because it's more important to have the right culture, to have the right standards and values and you have to live alone. Longer term, it's more important that in the end you are in the right position.

"And I'm happy with this game. The first-half, we did quite well, we dictated the game, we created the chances, there were three really good chances and one has to be in.

"Then they switch system, obviously we lose before half-time a little control of the game but after half-time, defensively we were organised but on the ball less good than in the first-half.

"I thought in the end one point each was a fair result and the outcome is 1-1, we have to live with that as well."
