Manchester United give Anthony Martial update for Chelsea fixture

Anthony Martial will not return for Manchester United against Chelsea on Saturday.

Martial has missed the last three games with a back injury he sustained in the warm-up against Everton on October 9 and the Frenchman has only started once this season.

United manager Erik ten Hag could name an unchanged side after presiding over their standout performance of the season in the dominant 2-0 defeat of third-placed Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Christian Eriksen was not deemed fit enough to start against Spurs but is in contention to return to the starting XI at Stamford Bridge.

However, Fred and Casemiro excelled against Spurs and the former scored the winning goal in what was widely regarded as the high-point of his Old Trafford career.

Chelsea, fourth in the table, are only a point ahead of United and unbeaten in their seven games under coach Graham Potter.

Defenders Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams have stepped up their rehabilitation this week but Williams is not expected to play again before Christmas and it is unclear if Maguire will travel to London.

Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been sidelined for six weeks. Wan-Bissaka is back on the training pitch but the Chelsea game is expected to be too soon for his return.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been omitted after his transgression against Tottenham.

Possible United squad: De Gea, Heaton, Dubravka, Dalot, Varane, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw, Malacia, Casemiro, McTominay, Fred, Eriksen, Fernandes, Antony, Sancho, Rashford, Elanga, Garnacho, Pellistri
