Manchester United supporters are imploring their club to consider a move for Ivan Toney after his brace earned a 2-1 win for Brentford over Manchester City on Saturday.
The striker was in clinical form after being left out of England’s World Cup squad. His double brings his tally to 11 for the season, already only three off his overall total from last term.
United are in need of a new long-term striker, although any hunt for an attacker will likely take place next summer after the board earmarked that window as the one for the next recruitment drive.

There is concern about the club’s attacking set-up with Cristiano Ronaldo ’s contract expiring in June and Anthony Martial frequently injured. A number of players have been linked with a potential move including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix.
However after Toney's showing against City, swathes of Reds fans on Twitter are encouraging United to purchase ready-made Premier League talent Toney as part of Erik ten Hag’s rebuild. Several supporters claimed the club “needs” a striker like Toney, listing their current striker dilemmas as supporting evidence.
@ProvoloneMalone : He'd start weekly for us right now.
@VuickRaider: Oh yes, we need him, Martial and Ronaldo are not fit enough and we don't know how long we'll be like that.
@kingben980: Even if 'just as backup' like many are saying here, won’t last long, once they see just how good he really is. Clinical finisher and powerful, and has arsenal of different finishes. If we can get him for 40-60 million, definitely.
@rubalskapoor: Has already scored 10 [Premier League] goals this season and scored 12 last season with way less quality players. He will score more than 25 goals for us in the league alone. Can press and not injury prone we would be silly if we don't explore him.
@TenHagsUnited : We need different options. Martial great at nine but you just don't know when he can turn up or get injured. Rashford finishing is very poor. Need that big CF as a different option.
@MufcWonItAll: 10 goals in 14 [league] games for Toney this season, pretty sure he got better stats than any of our forward players.
