Manchester United fans react as Donny van de Beek named on Everton bench vs Newcastle

Donny van de Beek will start his Everton career on the bench after being named amongst the substitutes for the Toffees' clash with Newcastle United at St James' Park this evening.

The Manchester United midfielder joined the Merseyside club on loan for the remainder of the season on transfer deadline day in an attempt to secure regular first-team football.

After being cup-tied for Saturday's 4-1 FA Cup triumph against Brentford on Saturday, the Dutchman was expected to make his bow for his new club against relegation-threatened Newcastle this evening.

However, Frank Lampard, who will be looking to mark his first Premier League game in charge of the club with a victory, has named the midfielder amongst the substitutes, just as he has with fellow deadline day recruit Dele Alli.

Whilst Van de Beek will most probably be frustrated by Lampard's decision, it is not unusual for a manager to blood new recruits in slowly, meaning he should get his chance from the start of a Premier League match before too long.

Nevertheless, Lampard's decision to bench the former Ajax man, unsurprisingly, has attracted a reaction on social media from some of United's supporters.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they have had to say.

As you can see from the messages displayed above, Lampard's decision to start the midfielder on the bench has attracted a humorous reaction, with United supporters pointing out that Van de Beek's fortunes have not changed following his temporary move to the Goodison Park club.

However, as outlined above, Lampard will be nursing Van de Beek into his new surroundings and you would expect him to come on and make his debut for his new club at some point this evening, depending on the pattern of the game.
