Manchester United fans have comeback for Norwich City after Harry Maguire comparison

Manchester United fans have had plenty of witty retorts for Norwich City after the club made a comparison between their centre-back Grant Hanley and Harry Maguire.

United are in desperate need of a victory to try and rescue their fading hopes of qualifying for the Champions League and have the perfect opportunity to find one when they face rock bottom Norwich on Saturday. Despite holding up the table for the vast majority of the season, the Canaries still have a slight chance of saving themselves from relegation after defeating rivals Burnley last weekend so there is plenty to play for in the clash.

Ahead of the match, the official Norwich Twitter account compared the stats of the club's two captains, Maguire and Hanley, with the Norwich man getting the better of it. The tweet points out that both players have made 26 appearances in the league this season, have scored one goal and kept six clean sheets but it's Hanley who has won the most duels with 143 to 116 and the most tackles with 21 to 17.

Although Norwich tweet similar comparisons with players from every opposing team they face in the run-up to matches, the tweet has still caused a stir on social media on Thursday with many interpreting it as a further pile-on of a player who has had a difficult few weeks. Maguire was booed by his own England fans during the Three Lions' friendly victory over Ivory Coast last month.

In defence of Maguire, some United fans were quick to point out that a defender who plays for a struggling team like Norwich is going to have more defending to do than a defender for a club at the top end of the table while others joked that Hanley's stats haven't helped Norwich much in their quest for survival so far.
