Manchester United fans defend Paul Pogba after furious Old Trafford reaction

Manchester United fans chanted expletives at Paul Pogba and twice booed him during and following the victory over Norwich on Saturday.

United survived a scare of their own making as Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick inspired them to a 3-2 victory over the rock bottom Canaries, though they did go two goals ahead before allowing the visitors to draw level. Despite the result, which has breathed new life into the club's top four hopes with Arsenal and Tottenham losing today, it wasn't a completely cheery day at Old Trafford.

The match began with plenty of empty seats in the stadium as thousands of fans didn't enter the ground until the 17th minute in protest against the Glazer family's ownership, with fans making their feelings known in the Munich tunnel. Anti-Glazer chants continued throughout the match, too.

Then Pogba was on the receiving end of the fans' fury. In the 74th minute the Frenchman was replaced by Juan Mata and as his number was held aloft by the fourth official a chorus of sarcastic cheers, similar to what Harry Maguire received recently, came up from the crowd.

There were also boos as Pogba left the field and a chant of 'f*** off Pogba' could clearly be heard for a small amount of time. After the match as Pogba was walking towards the tunnel, he was once again booed and the midfielder then appeared to cup his ear to the crowd in response, which in turn increased the volume of the jeers.

However, plenty of United fans on social media have moved to defend Pogba and condemn the fans for turning on one of their own players.
