Manchester United 'eyeing trio of goalkeepers' amid David De Gea contract uncertainty and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are laying the groundwork for the potential signing of a goalkeeper this summer with three targets in mind, according to reports.

United are thought to be eyeing a new shot-stopper, with the future of David De Gea uncertain. The 32-year-old's current contract expires at the end of this month and he is yet to sign a new deal with the club. There is an option to extend the current terms fo 12 months, although the club want to significantly lower his £375,000-per-week wages.

Erik ten Hag is keen on adding competition between the posts regardless of De Gea's future, and the Dutchman could enter the market for a goalkeeper who can cope with his demands in possession - an area De Gea has struggled with this season.

And according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Ten Hag is thought to have his eye on three goalkeepers: Porto's Diogo Costa, David Raya of Brentford and Andre Onana of Inter Milan. The Reds look set to face competition for any of the three, with Chelsea and Tottenham both also in the market for that role.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United are interested in Harry Maguire but will not be able to take him on loan despite that being an option for Aston Villa, according to the Sun.

Maguire's future at United remains uncertain, having fallen out of favour under Ten Hag since the arrival of Lisandro Martinez. Furthermore, the Dutchman's decision to start Luke Shaw in central defence over his club captain offers little hope of a resurgence.

The 29-year-old is said to be wanted by both Newcastle and Villa this summer. But whereas United would be open to a loan deal with the Midlands club, Eddie Howe's side would have to sanction a permanent move.

The report suggests United's decision is based on not wanting to improve a direct rival with no instant financial benefit to cushion the decision.
