Manchester United 'eye Frenkie de Jong alternative signing' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a potential move for Porto midfielder Marko Grujic, as they consider alternative options to Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong.

United wanted De Jong last summer and are open to the idea of continuing their pursuit of him when the market reopens. However, should the Netherlands international once again stay put at Camp Nou then United will need to look elsewhere.

It was only when Barcelona and De Jong rebuffed their advances that United eventually signed Casemiro last summer and he has been a brilliant performer in the engine room this season. Erik ten Hag plans to add to his squad this summer with at least two major signings.

United have earmarked Harry Kane as their prime target in the search for a new striker and Ten Hag is also keen on bringing in a midfielder.

Reports from Telegraf indicate United are admirers of Porto midfielder Grujic as he continues to impress with the Portuguese giants. Grujic, 26, previously spent three years with Liverpool and has made 94 appearances since moving to Porto - initially on loan - in 2020.

Grujic has been capped 19 times by Serbia. AC Milan are also said to be keen.

Elsewhere, reports from Football Insider say United will revive the push to sign Ruben Neves as Liverpool and Barcelona also consider moves for the Wolves player. Neves, 26, has regularly been linked with United in recent seasons and only has 15 months left to run on his current contract at Molineux.

Neves has reportedly been earmarked as a possible replacement for Scott McTominay should the Scot leave Old Trafford amid reported interest from Newcastle.
