Manchester United's pursuit of Frenkie de Jong was arguably the saga of the summer just gone.
New boss Erik ten Hag had made it clear to United's transfer chiefs that he wanted to reunite with a midfielder he worked with at Ajax. After weeks and weeks of speculation a deal never came to fruition with the Dutchman remaining at the Nou Camp. Now, a fresh report has suggested a deal could be revived as part of a domino effect at Barca.
The Mirror report that the Spanish giants are desperate to sign Ruben Neves from Wolves. The Catalan side reportedly want the Portuguese to form a new-look midfield trio alongside Pedri and Gavi.

Should that happen it could push De Jong down the pecking order and open the door for United to try their luck again next summer.
Meanwhile, Portuguese news outlet JN say United are to re-visit interest in Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos. The 21-year-old has eight goals in 13 so far this season and is ably filling the void left behind by Darwin Nunez who left for Liverpool this summer.
Benfica are said to be willing to consider offers of around £35million for the youngster, whose contract runs until 2025. But United are unlikely to be alone in their quest to sign Ramos, with Newcastle, PSG and Bayern Munich among a clutch of clubs keeping tabs on him.
