Manchester United have confirmed Luke Shaw will miss the start of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained during training.
Shaw has not played for the club since February but did make a comeback during England’s run to the Euro 2024 final after previous doubts about his fitness even during the tournament.
The 29-year-old is now hoping to return after the first international break of the season in September.
It is the latest injury blow to have undermined Erik ten Hag’s plans for the start of the season, which begins at home to Fulham on Friday.
Summer signing Leny Yoro has been ruled out of action for around three months after suffering a foot injury in the friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles, while Rasmus Hojlund is expected to miss the opening six weeks with a hamstring issue.
“Luke Shaw will miss the opening games of the Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training,” read a club statement.
“He is working hard on his rehabilitation with a view to being available after the first international break.”
