Manchester United confirm Europa League squad

Phil Jones and Brandon Williams have been excluded from Manchester United's Europa League squad for their group stage.

Jones, 30, has started two games in the last two years and has been unavailable through injury since United players returned for pre-season training on June 27.

Since Jones was awarded a four-year contract in February 2019, he has started eight times for United and he has entered the final year of his deal.

United have the option of an additional year on Jones's contract but are almost certain not to extend it due to his lack of playing time.

Williams, 22, spent last season on loan at Norwich and has been unavailable to United manager Erik ten Hag due to injury.

Axel Tuanzebe and Facundo Pellistri, who are also currently sidelined through injury, have been included in the 25-man squad.

Anthony Elanga is not listed by United as he qualifies for the B list due to his age.

Uefa rules state: "A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 2001 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA – or for a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.

"Players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption."

All six summer signings are available for selection for United's opening group game against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.

United have also been drawn with Cypriot side Omonia FC and Moldovan outfit FC Sheriff.

United Europa League squad: De Gea, Heaton, Dubravka, Dalot, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Maguire, Lindelof, Tuanzebe, Malacia, Shaw, Casemiro, McTominay, Fred, Eriksen, Van de Beek, Fernandes, Pellistri, Antony, Rashford, Sancho, Martial, Ronaldo, Garnacho.
