Manchester United 'closing in' on Queen's Park youngster Callan McKenna

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Queen's Park youngster Callan McKenna.

The Daily Record states the Premier League giants are in advanced talks to sign the 17-year-old in a deal worth six figures.

The report says the Championship side will benefit from add-ons which could see them earn more than six figures should they be triggered.

McKenna is a Scotland Under-19 international and has made seven first-team appearances to date for the Spiders.

In recent times he's been injured, however, United have had McKenna on trial for some time.

The Old Trafford club has had to fend off interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Leicester City.

Queen's Park is on the verge of appointing Callum Davidson as the club's new manager.

The double-cup-winning St Johnstone hero has been in advanced talks over the vacant position. It's believed he will be assisted by Liam Craig.

Meanwhile, Jack Butland is the 'complete goalkeeper' - and Graeme Souness can't quite believe Rangers signed him in the summer.

The former Rangers player and manager insists it remains a mystery to him as to how his old side managed to land him under Michael Beale.

He left Crystal Palace upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season. He'd previously spent time on loan at Manchester United.

Beale tied him down on a four-year deal at Ibrox in what was undoubtedly the best bit of summer transfer activity conducted by the now Sunderland boss.

The keeper has established himself as a fans' favourite and has managed to keep the most clean sheets in the Premiership so far this season.

Souness is still surprised to this day just how they managed to pull off such a signing coup.

Appearing on White & Jordan, he told talkSPORT: “How they’ve got Jack Butland, it’s a mystery to me. I’ve been up there several times and watched him this year, I watched the Old Firm game. He looks like the complete goalkeeper."
