Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag hails Eddie Howe's 'high intensity' Newcastle United

Manchester United's Erik ten Hag has hailed Newcastle United energetic style of play ahead of their Sunday afternoon clash.

Newcastle head to Old Trafford having scored a whopping nine goals combined in their last two games against Brentford and Fulham. Spirits on Tyneside are high with Eddie Howe's side sitting sixth in the Premier League after nine games, a spot below Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag has endured a mixed start to life at Old Trafford this season. There have been plenty of growing pains for the Dutchman during his short tenure so far.

The last time Newcastle won away against Manchester United was in 2013, when Yohan Cabaye's second half smash and grab strike handed then Magpies boss Alan Pardew a famous win.

This time around however, Newcastle head to Old Trafford feeling like a completely different beast to the teams that preceded them. They are a side brimming with confidence who are close to returning to full strength. There is every chance the Magpies could get a result against Manchester United which has not been the case necessarily in recent times.

And speaking ahead of the clash between the two sides, ten Hag spoke highly of Newcastle's energy and intensity, going further to state his Manchester United team would have to be at their best to beat the Magpies.

"They [Newcastle United] do really well," ten Hag said.

"I think it's a team who can play in high intensity with a lot of energy and that makes it a tough opponent. We know we have to play our best to get the right result.

"We always go from game to game. It gives another impulse to the team, to the belief. The spirit is already good but it will give a push to that spirit again. It will strengthen the belief in the squad.

"For the rest, we have to go from game to game. These are tough opponents but we are really looking forward [to them]. These are real tests for us as a squad to go into battle. And as I say, it delivers energy."
