Manchester United and Nottingham Forest receive huge transfer boost in £34m chase

Nottingham Forest have been handed a boost in a potential move for PSV winger Cody Gakpo.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Forest throughout the summer and could now be set for a move to the Premier League. United are said to have already submitted a £34 million bid for the player.

PSV were knocked out of the Champions League by Rangers last night (Thursday), with the Scottish giants winning 1-0 in the Netherlands to send them through on a 3-2 aggregate score. Without Champions League football, the likelihood of Gakpo leaving PSV has increased greatly.

Despite links to Forest, Man United are also said to be interested in the Dutchman. A transfer battle between Forest and United could now open up now Gakpo's concentration on the Champions League has come to an end in time for the end of the transfer window.

During his latest press conference, PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy said: "I think I am very relaxed about the situation. There have been rumours about him since the beginning of the season almost eight weeks ago and we have not seen Cody changing his behaviour up to now.

"There were rumours over the whole period and I admire that a lot in him. He's working on his development on a daily basis, playing in games and reaching his level.

"He's not distracted, he's focused on the games he has to play and focused on his next game. For a young guy like him, it's special to see that attitude."
