Manchester United and Newcastle supporters offered safe standing at Wembley for Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United and Manchester United fans will be permitted to stand at Wembley for the first time in a major domestic cup final in almost 35 years. The Magpies will be making their first appearance in a major final since 1999, having knocked out Southampton at St James' Park on Tuesday night.

Newcastle are yet to release ticket information ahead of the showpiece occasion on February 26, with the Red Devils confirming a ballot will be in operation. The sides currently sit level on points in the Premier League table, although the Magpies are above their top-four rivals on goal difference.

Safe standing has been on the agenda at top-flight fixtures in recent years, with Stamford Bridge becoming the first venue to implement the approach in January last year. Now, the Toon Army are set to become a part of history with up to 1,000 travelling fans being allowed to stand at Wembley.
