Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo ‘delighted’ at contract termination, says Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand believes both Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo will be happy to see the back of each other after the striker left the club.

The 37-year-old’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent, the club announced on Tuesday evening, following his spectacular comments against United, the Glazer family owners, manager Erik ten Hag and many more.

For ex-teammate Ferdinand, the question is now whether Ronaldo picks his next club for “money” or a fresh shot at the Champions League.

Hometown club Sporting CP and Chelsea are the early favourites to sign the player.

“I think both parties will be delighted now,” Ferdinand told BBC Sport.

“He obviously did that interview with the mindset he wanted to get out the club as he wasn't happy and he made it very clear.

“But I also think Ten Hag has got what he wanted. Both parties are happy. Move on.

“Next chapter for Cristiano Ronaldo.”
