Manchester United 'agreed personal terms' with Cody Gakpo and more transfer rumours

Manchester United had reportedly 'agreed personal terms' with Cody Gakpo this transfer window before eventually deciding against pursuing a deal.

According to The Athletic, United's interest in signing Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven this summer was very serious. They report that the club had agreed personal terms with the player's representatives ahead of the September 1 deadline.

It is claimed that United stopped pursuing a deal for Gakpo due to the transfer fee for Antony continuing to rise, with the Reds concerned about how much money they would end up spending. Erik ten Hag's decision to keep Anthony Elanga for the season is also thought to be a contributing factor in the Dutch winger's deal failing to materialise, as the need for another player in a similar position diminished.

Elsewhere, French outlet Jeunes Footeux (via TeamTalk) claim that United are lining up a move for Jan Oblak as a replacement for David de Gea.

The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper's contract runs out at the end of this season, as United look at potential options in goal should De Gea leave the club. The Spaniard is also in the last year of his deal at Old Trafford, but the MEN understands that the club have an option to extend this by a further year.

The report also claims that United face a battle for Oblak's signature from Paris Saint-Germain, as the Ligue 1 club look to sort a deal for the 29-year-old. It is believed that Atletico are desperate to keep the shot-stopper at the Wanda Metropolitano - the Slovenian goalkeeper has been at the club since 2014, making 359 appearances across all competitions for Diego Simeone's side.
