Manchester United 'agreed Cody Gakpo contract' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United agreed personal terms with PSV starlet Cody Gakpo this summer, according to reports.

Starting off his much-needed rebuild, manager Erik ten Hag struck-up deals for six players during his first window, including Casemiro from Real Madrid and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. In attacking quarters, meanwhile, Ten Hag swooped for Antony from his former club Ajax.

His signature cost United a fee rising to €100million, and while the club were being linked with the Brazilian, it was Gakpo who was being earmarked as a potential alternative. Gakpo himself thought the transfer was close and now reports have emerged claiming that a contract was mapped out.

The Athletic suggest United had no trouble convincing the 23-year-old to sign. However, they did not launch a bid for PSV to answer and Gakpo ultimately stayed put in the Eredivisie - where he has started the season in style with seven goals and three assists in six games.

Elsewhere, midfielder Donny van de Beek is wanted by Italian giants Inter Milan. The 25-year-old has struggled to command a regular place in the United team ever since completing his £35million move to the club two summers ago.

Van de Beek was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it was thought his opportunity might, finally, come this season when Ten Hag was appointed. Of course, Van de Beek and Ten Hag succeeded together during their time at Ajax and the former is well-versed in what the latter demands from his players. However, the Netherlands international has played just 19 minutes in the Premier League this campaign.

Fichajes are, meanwhile, among several outlets to link the Dutchman with a move to Inter and they have identified him as an alternative to Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
