Manchester United ace Anthony Martial equals Ronaldo and Rooney record vs Crystal Palace

Anthony Martial has become the first player since 2007 to score in three consecutive pre-season friendlies for Manchester United after finding the net against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

The Frenchman, just as he did against Melbourne Victory on Friday, found himself in the right place at the right time to net his third goal in as many games, turning home Diogo Dalot's excellent cross from close range. It was a fantastic delivery from the latter, which Martial brought down, steadied himself and stroked it past substitute goalkeeper Remi Matthews.

Martial, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla, raced away to celebrate his latest pre-season strike, almost as though it was a competitive strike that meant something significant. However, not that Martial was probably aware, it meant that he became the first Reds ace to score in a third consecutive pre-season match in 15 years.

Back in 2007, ahead of the memorable 2007/08 campaign, Cristiano Ronaldo scored in three successive matches, finding the net against Urawa Red Diamonds, FC Seoul and Shenzhen. Wayne Rooney also found the net in four successive friendlies that summer, scoring against FC Seoul, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Inter Milan.

Martial will be looking to match Rooney's run of scoring in four successive friendlies when United lock horns with Premier League counterparts Aston Villa on Saturday in Perth.
