Manchester to Rochdale and Leeds trains cancelled after 'operational incident'

The railway line between Manchester and Rochdale is blocked this morning due to a broken down train.

Services to the town from Manchester Victoria will either be cancelled or delayed this morning, according to National Rail. Metrolink ticket acceptance is in place.

Other lines affected include the line between Chester and Wigan North Western and Leeds, the line between Clitheroe and Rochdale and the line between Blackburn and Kirkby and Rochdale. According to the National Rail website, disruption is expected until at least 10am.

A tweet posted by TfGM this morning said: "Rail services are currently unable to operate between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale. This is due to an operational incident. @MCRMetrolink ticket acceptance is in place.

"Plan ahead & allow extra time. Follow @nationalrailenq and @northernassist for updates."

Northern said in a tweet: "Due to a broken down freight train between Manchester Victoria and Hebden Bridge, the line is blocked. Train services will be cancelled or delayed between these two stations. Trains are unable to run from Manchester Victoria towards Rochdale and Leeds."
